| Foxtrot 58 Senior Rank Challenge – 2 (Royal Irish) Platoon
Battle Picture It's 1985 and the Cold War has gone hot! The Red Army's tanks are thrusting deep into West Germany, and the Soviet Navy is fighting hard to stop US reinforcements getting across the Atlantic. Just as in World War 2, Northern Ireland is in the front line as an important staging-point on the vital US sea-lanes. Spetsnaz sabotage squads, some dressed in NATO uniform, have already attacked port installations in Londonderry, Larne and Belfast.
In the early hours of last night, the local coastguard at Whitehead reported suspicious activity near the Gobbins Road cliffs. At daylight, a PSNI mobile patrol spotted a small group of armed men in military uniform in the area, but withdrew when the group suddenly opened fire, wounding one police officer. PSNI have now cordoned off the area and requested military assistance. Your platoon from B Coy, 1 Royal Irish are the only troops who can be spared.
Warning Order
Plan You are to undertake operations against a suspected Soviet Spetsnaz sabotage squad believed to be gone to ground in the Killymurphy area.
Outline You will locate, and when located, destroy the enemy forces
Orders Group You are to report to the Ops Room, Killymurphy Security Forces Base, Grid 541544, no later than DTG 051000Z DEC (that's 10.00 am on Sunday 5th December, for those who don't understand NATO Date Time Groups!)
No Move Before 1030 Hrs
Admin Full operational ammo loads to be carried and combat webbing worn plus helmets if in possession. Cam cream to be worn. Grenades available for issue after O Group. Other kit as per unit SOPs
H Hour 1100 Hrs
[before anyone says "That's not the full set of headings for a Warning Order!", it's a simplified variant I was taught on my Platoon Commander course by a Royal Marine Commando officer, no less, and it works for me!]
These will be the missions that set the standard for the others! You DON'T want to miss them! No fuss, no frills, just staightforward, realistic milsim missions such as real troops would get on exercise or on operations. Never mind Operation Flashpoint or Call of Duty, this will be the nearest you get to being a soldier on ops apart from the real thing!
Remember - it's the 2 Platoon mission day but it's open to EVERYBODY! And just by going to all three platoon days, you get a crack at some great personal prizes! Prizes for just having a great time!!!

| OK guys there's room for all so get your butts up this Sunday 5th.
This will be the most milsim mission yet played at Foxtrot 58, conducted along the same lines as an Army exercise.
On Sunday, you will not be airsoft players. You will be infantrymen, carrying out section battle drills under realistic conditions against a live, hostile enemy.
See you there! | |

| Here's a bit more information on the morning (rural) game. There will be a full briefing on the day.
This will be different from what you're used to up here, beause it will be even more hardcore milsim, start to finish. This Sunday, you are not airsoft players. You are infantrymen, who will be taking part in section battle drills. You will carry out the same mission twice - once as attacker, the other time as defender. The defender will be playing "enemy" for the attacker, as in an Army exercise. The attacker WILL win - the question is, how quickly, and at what cost? This isn't a competition, but as an extra incentive, the attacker that wins fastest, but also with fewest casualties, will be declared the winner of the morning mission. When you're attacking, you want to win as quickly as you can, with as few casualties as possible. When defending, you want to hold out as long as you can, and inflict as many casualties as possible. Time and casualties - they will determine whether your Section wins, or not. Either way, win or not, you will have one of the most realistic airsoft missions you have every played, and hopefully one of the most exciting. Here's how it will work. Each mission will be in two phases. In the first phase, your section will conduct an advance to contact, destroying enemy pockets of resistance. In the second phase, you will carry out a deliberate attack on an enemy defensive position. This will be as real as it gets, without being in the Army! | |
